What is a DSLR camera? How is it Better Than a Traditional Digital Camera?

A DSLR is a type of advanced digital camera that has a larger image sensor than a traditional digital camera. DSLRs capture better image details and produce high quality photos. Photos taken using DSLR cameras have higher resolution and color value. While budget DSLR cameras are used for personal purposes, advanced DLSRs are best used for professional photography.

DSLR stands for Digital Single-Lens Reflex. In a DSLR camera, traditional optical mechanics is combined with Digital Imaging technology to capture image data. Earlier SLR cameras were popular. SLR stands for Single-Lens Reflex. SLRs used a single lens to both preview the image in the viewfinder and also to record the image into the film(rolls of physical films). As the technology advanced, an electronic image sensor was used in place of films to capture the image data which got stored in an installed memory card. Along with a viewfinder, display screens were also used. And a new name was evolved called DSLR.

DSLR cameras are Better Than Traditional Digital Cameras

Different types of digital cameras are there, such as Compact or Point-and-Shoot Digital Cameras, DSLR Cameras, Mirrorless Cameras, Action Cameras etc. DSLRs cameras are the most popular among all because of their features and performance.

Point-and-Shoot digital cameras have fixed lenses and have low zoom range. where DSLR come with interchangeable lens features so that more capable lenses can be installed to get better image quality and high zoom range. Not just photos, very high quality and optimal resolution videos can be recorded using a DSLR. These cameras support very fast and high storage memory cards, so photos can be clicked quickly without any lag, and large amounts of photos and videos can be stored in the memory.

Except for a few entry level DSLRs which have cropped sensors, most DSLR cameras come with full size image sensors. And because of that DSLRs can capture more detail than Action Cameras and Point-and-Shoot Cameras. DSLR cameras also come with batteries that last long. As DSLR batteries are changeable, additional batteries can be used interchangeably.

DSLR Cameras also offer a significant cost advantage as these have very good features but are very cheaper then the Mirrorless Cameras.
